How can you prioritise Self-Love and Care this Valentine’s Day?

    V-Day-post

14th February is typically known as a day of love. It is a day most commonly known as a day to show love and appreciation to your significant other, your partner, spouse etc. But, How often do we take the time to show ourselves the same love and appreciation?

Fun Fact! The first Valentine's Day was in the year 496 AD! The day gets its name from a famous saint, but we don't actually know exactly who Valentine was. A popular belief about St Valentine is that he was a priest from Rome in the third century AD.

When you show yourself love and appreciation, this is known as self-care. When used consistently, it can relieve uncomfortable emotions and improve physical health. Self-care can prevent daily life stressors and big life events escalating to burnout and breakdown. It can also help us be kinder to ourselves and see ourselves in an overall positive way, this doesn't mean we feel positive about ourselves all the time but it can help to improve our wellbeing when we are having a bad day.

Here are some things you can do to practice self-care this Valentines Day.

    - The greatest gift you can give yourself is time to recharge your batteries.

    - Put your phone on Do Not Disturb or Sleep Mode to silence your notifications, this can help create a sense of peace. Fill that time with working on your self-love like being productive or finding hobbies you enjoy.

    - Go for a walk, immerse your self in nature and the fresh air.

    - Buy yourself some flowers.

    - Watch or listen to your favourite tv show, film, music artist.

    - Create your own self-love and self-care declarations.

At The Recovery College, We believe in and promote self-kindness and acts of kindness to others and know that we are on a journey to love ourselves as we love others.

We have a course called Self-care and Compassion to help our students learn more about practicing self-care.

In this course sessions run every week, we discuss what self-care and compassion is and it's benefits.  We learn about different coping strategies you can apply to your life daily and you are encouraged to complete self-care activities regularly. Each week is focused on a topic covering self-care, self-love, boundaries, senses, positive self-talk and moving forward setting goals.
