A Day in the Life of...Darren Williams

At the Recovery College volunteers play a huge part in shaping courses, providing feedback and bringing their lived experience to inform the College's policies and approaches. Today we are speaking to Darren Williams!

    1) What is your job role?

I'm Darren, 33 and a volunteer at the recovery college since 2021, and I help facilitate the Men's Wellbeing Group as well as input towards the Development and Evaluation groups.

    2) Name something that you love about working at the Recovery College.

What I love about volunteering at the college is the feeling of giving back to others who are starting the recovery journey after once being in that same position. Also no two courses or meetings are the same, it's like a constant process of learning and also the feeling of togetherness at the college, all the way through it.

    3) What's next, relevant or exciting for you at the College?

Going forward I am looking forward to seeing how the expansion at the college goes, find more volunteer opportunities within the college such as using my diagnosis of Asperger's to help with the autism awareness co-production, grow as a person and from a personal perspective, I'm looking forward to a 50th Anniversary celebration event in May for the world's longest running sitcom - Last of the Summer Wine, which I am also helping volunteer with.

    Thank you so much Darren
