Kerry Davis - The Lionesses' First Black Footballer, Black History Month 2024

This year the theme for Black History Month is Reclaiming Narratives. BBC Sport have interviewed the Lionesses' (England's Women's Team) first Black Player, Kerry Davis. In 1982, Kerry Davis became the first black woman to play football for England, she made over 80 appearances for The Lionesses' between 1982 and 1998.

It is in recent months she has been recognised for her contribution to sport. In March, she received the Keith Alexander award from the Football Black List and later received a lifetime achievement award at the 2024 Women's Football Awards. 

In this article she shares her story how she grew up playing football how it was her main outlet, her desire to play for England and her dream for Women's Football to train and prepare in the same training ground as the Men's Team.
