Each term the Spiritual Care Team join forces with the Recovery College to take students and staff on a visit to a local Faith & Belief Community. This is a great way to learn more about the different beliefs and perspectives that shape the Black Country and also see in action all the great things that Faith Communities are doing in the local community as well being a centre for worship and gathering. Our most recent visit in November was to a Sikh Gurdwara.
We went to the Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Great Barr on a sunny Autumn morning and were treated to a very warm welcome by members of the community. We had a tour of the building, listened to women leading some songs of worship and watched the kitchen team making samosas. The Gurdwara is always open for people to receive hospitality and find refreshment. This is such a beautiful generous gift of the Sikh community worldwide. We ended our visit with a hot meal which was absolutely delicious. Thnaks to Joga Singh, the Sikh Chaplain, who enabled this visit to happen.
We are beginning to plan our visits for next year. We have in mind a Jewish Synagogue, a Roman Catholic Church and a trip back to the popular Buddhist Centre in Cradley. Very open to suggestions too so please let the College know what interests you. Email:
