    It's Mental Health Awareness Week!

    COMMUNITY-MHAW-post-Presentation

Since 2001 the Mental Health Foundation have been bringing the UK together to focus on getting good mental health. This year the theme for the week is Community. At The Recovery College we are privileged to have a community of Students, Volunteers, Partners and Staff where we each have a vital role in making our community so special.

The Mental Health Foundation write "Being part of a community can make life feel more meaningful and enjoyable, help us feel happier and safer, and improve our mental health." https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/our-work/public-engagement/mental-health-awareness-week

The theme for 2025 resonates with us here at the college as we can make links to CHIME. The C in CHIME stands for Connectedness - Having positive relationships and being connected with other people in a positive way.

A message from The Recovery College Principal Kerry Wilkes: "Being part of a community is so beneficial for our mental health, it can help us create connections, feel a sense of purpose and belonging and access vital emotional and social support. We know from our students that not everyone has access to or are able to be part of a community due to variety of reasons. Which is why being part of the Recovery College Community and connection with others is so meaningful to our students and are key aspects in their recovery journeys. Through weaving CHIME across all of our delivery and activities the Recovery College creates a community that enables inclusion, participation and promotes opportunities that empower students to build lives, connections and communities that go beyond the Recovery College."

We will be sharing helpful resources throughout the week on our blog and social media pages.

Join us for Wear It Green Day on Thursday 15 May during Mental Health Awareness Week (12-18 May) – and let's turn the world green for good mental health! #WearitGreenDay "By going green, you can support us in carrying out vital research and delivering programmes for different communities." https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/get-involved/fundraising/do-your-own-fundraising/wear-it-green-day

Our Staff Team will all be wearing Green to raise awareness for Mental Health. Watch this space for photographs!

This week we encourage you to raise awareness for good mental health. Speak to those around you about mental health and the theme for 2025 and if you do not feel part of a community this is the perfect week to look for a community that is right for you.
