Hanukkah is known as the Jewish festival of lights and is celebrated every year around November or December. This year the festival will begin on the 7th December and finish on the 15th December. Starting on the 25th day of Kislev, which is the ninth month of the Hebrew Calendar. People celebrate by playing dreidel, singing songs, preparing food for loved ones and passing over gifts to family and friends. 

The festival is also celebrated by individuals lighting a candle stick which is called a Hanukiah. With eight branches besides the Shamash, which is one of the first candles to be lit then used to light the others. As the Shamash is the first one to be lit, it is normally placed higher or lower on the row of candles. The eight branches signify the eight days of the miracle, where each candle is lighted to mark each day of the festival.
