Here at the Recovery College we have a really great team of dedicated facilitators who make your recovery journey as smooth and as friendly as possible.
Next in our Day in the Life of series, Meet Stuart one of our fabulous facilitators..
Can you describe your job role as a Facilitator
Hi I'm Stuart and I am a Facilitator with the Recovery College. My role is to work with students, volunteers and other facilitators to design courses and course materials for different subject areas. I then work with volunteers and facilitators to deliver these courses to students who attend the college. I also ensure that students are fully engaged in the courses, encourage them to take a full and active role in sessions, make time to ensure they feel comfortable taking part and help them to achieve their full potential during their recovery journey. I also get to evaluate courses and activities, record and feedback student comments, and help to make things even better in the future.
What do you enjoy about your role?
I enjoy the interactions that I have with students, seeing them grow in confidence and ability as they take part in sessions. I also enjoy seeing students develop positive relationships, and make connections with other students. I particularly enjoy seeing students recognise and realise the unique talents and abilities that they all have and what they can offer to others and the world in general. I also learn a great deal from students sharing their journeys and experiences with me, and this helps me to become a better and more rounded individual. As well as this, I also work as part of a great team of facilitators, learning support assistants and support staff, all of whom are incredibly passionate about their roles, and the work of the Recovery College, but all of whom have different and unique personalities and delivery styles.
What are you looking forward to during this term?
I am looking forward to working with new students and staff, in different bases, and on different courses. We change bases and courses regularly to keep things new and exciting, and to maintain our passion and enthusiasm. I am looking forward to seeing students' creativity and seeing and hearing their great ideas. These never cease to amaze and inspire me. I am also looking forward to trying out some new delivery methods, using some exciting new tools and techniques, and looking forward to seeing how the college can grow and constantly improve and help students to achieve more and more.
