Help for Army Veterans and their families

The new Veterans Coproduction Group, hosted by the Recovery College aims to ensure that both the College and Black Country Healthcare NHS Trust will fully meet the needs of and be accessible to the Armed Forces and Veterans Communities including family members.

A small group of Veteran Recovery College students have been working really hard in developing the new Co-production Group, which will meet for the first time on the 18th May 2023.

One of the main aims of the group will be to discuss individual, Armed Forces and Veterans community experiences of accessing mental health services in the Black Country with a view to understanding local barriers, needs and clinical priorities to enable us to make positive change, both at the Recovery College and the wider Black Country Healthcare NHS Trust.

The Recovery College are also in the very early stages of planning and meeting with the Help for Heroes Recovery College, with a view to the Recovery College Veteran volunteers being trained in the Help for Heroes, "Moving Forwards" course, to enable the Recovery College to deliver this course to Veterans across the Black Country.

The Help for Heroes, Veterans Moving Forwards course has been designed by Veterans for Veterans. This course is suitable for all military Veterans, regardless of when or where they served. By the end of the course, students should understand the true impact of their military experience and be equipped with the right skills to move forward in their recovery journey. Focus will be placed on both psychological and physical wellbeing tools to ensure students can navigate life's challenges and build a brighter future.
