The CHIME framework was developed to support individuals in their recovery journeys by focusing on their personal needs and strengths. At The Recovery college CHIME is embedded throughout all of the courses that we deliver and one to one conversations. This allows us to facilitate recovery through learning. The five components of CHIME are:
CONNECTEDNESS
This refers to having a supportive network of relationships and connections with others, which is crucial for emotional support and social integration. Positive relationships can significantly enhance the recovery process.
HOPE & OPTIMISM
Cultivating a sense of hope and optimism is vital for motivating individuals to pursue recovery. Believing that recovery is possible encourages positive thinking and resilience in the face of challenges.
IDENTITY
Regaining a positive sense of self is essential. This involves overcoming the stigma associated with mental health issues or addiction and developing a new identity that is not solely defined by these challenges.
MEANING & PURPOSE
Finding purpose and meaning in life is a critical aspect of recovery. Individuals are encouraged to identify what is meaningful to them, which can include personal goals, social roles, and contributions to their community.
EMPOWERMENT
This component emphasizes the importance of individuals taking control of their recovery journey. It involves focusing on personal strengths, making decisions, and taking responsibility for one's life and choices.
