It's been a great month here at The Recovery College, As we enter the second half of our term lets reflect on the successes of February.
At the start of February the marketing team hosted a Time to Talk Day event online. Time to Talk Day is a day for friends, families, communities and workplaces to come together to talk, listen and change lives. We had a great session getting to know each other, discussing music, our pets and small acts of kindness you have noticed that can make someone's day
Our team received some training led by PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide. It was insightful and engaging and will help us to support our students.
The marketing team have been busy attending events across the Black Country. Ahead of Bloxwich Launchpad being opened in Spring 2025 Lauren and Julian (Learning Support Assistant) attended an event to promote the launchpad to local residents and organisations. We have two taster sessions taking place on 6th March and Thursday 3rd April at Bloxwich Library. If you would like to know more about the launchpad or the Recovery College please come and see us.
We've had lots of student successes this month and it is always great to hear your feedback. One in particular was featured in the Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Staff Newsletter which we want to share!
"First of all, many thanks for having me at The Recovery College today; it's been a challenging yet mostly positive and fulfilling experience. By respecting my need for "space" and giving me the agency to choose whether or not to engage with the class today, I was able to relax my mind enough for thoughts to flow freely. This is something I most often struggle with, so I'd like to thank you both for that!
As a result, I now feel empowered enough to realise I'm one step closer to achieving my ultimate goal, which is "to have a voice"—to be seen, heard, listened to, and understood! I hope that after some time, my progress with The Recovery College will lead me to a position where I feel comfortable enough to physically "be seen" by the Zoom participants and where I'll be confident enough to share my thoughts aloud.
As I left the building to go home at the end of the day, feeling accomplished and pondering, "What gives me hope?" I couldn't help but stop and snap a picture of what I saw ahead of me—a beautiful rainbow (of hope)! See pic below."
This week we officially launched our Instagram page. A new way for you to keep in touch with us at the college, so you don't miss out on any events or important information. Please follow the account: recoverycollegebc https://www.instagram.com/recoverycollegebc/
We have celebrated LGBT+ History Month, our LGBTQ+ Recover Together group had some amazing ideas and work to share throughout the month of February. You can see this work here on our blog: https://www.therecoverycollege.co.uk/what-s-on/our-blog
We recognised lots of Historical Activists, events that have happened across the Black Country and some student stories about their own experience.
As you can see it has been a jampacked month and we are looking forward to March here at the college. Spring is just around the corner, bringing sunny skies and flowers blooming.
