Do you want to become a Volunteer?

Volunteering comes in many forms but at the root volunteering is using our time, skills and energy to support others, it not only helps them but helps us too.

There are many benefits to volunteering and they can be unique to every individual. You may want to give back to your community or an organisation that has supported you, perhaps you are looking to learn a new skill. You may want to explore what it is like to work for an organisation or you'd like to make new friends and connect with your community.

If you are interested in the statistics, a National Survey by NCVO on the Volunteer Experience in 2019 states

  • Volunteers feel they benefit from their volunteering in a number of ways, with enjoyment being the highest rated (93%). Those who volunteer frequently particularly feel these benefits.
  • The majority of volunteers feel like they make a difference through their volunteering (90%), and they most commonly feel they make a difference to an individual's life (47%) or a particular group of people or issue in society (44%).

At The Recovery College we are passionate about our students setting new goals and encouraging you to discover new ways to support your mental health within your community.  A number of our students move on to Volunteer within the college, Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust or with another organisation.

We offer a Volunteer Workshop where we discuss what Volunteering is, what your skills are and how to showcase them when looking for opportunities.

We have recently co-produced a brand new course called Supporting Your Next Steps: Work and Volunteering. This two‑part course helps you explore and prepare for your next steps into work or volunteering, whatever stage you are at. Part 1 supports you to understand your motivation, recognise your strengths, skills and values, and set realistic goals that feel manageable. Part 2 builds practical skills for when you feel ready, including creating effective CVs and cover letters, preparing for interviews, and learning about local employment services and opportunities. You can attend one or both parts depending on your journey. All students completing Part 2, or both parts, can access a personalised 1‑to‑1 session for further guidance and support.

If you are interested in either of these courses please get in touch with the college by email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 0121 543 4061.
