 LGBTQ+ Inclusion Training

During March our team booked onto or have attended the Black Country Healthcare LGBT+ Inclusion Training arranged by the LGBTQ+ Staff Network and funded by the Trust.

The training helped our team understand how to include everyone regardless of sexuality or gender identity. All information will influence best practice in BCHFT services and foster a more inclusive environment for both patients and colleagues.

The session included:
  • Why it's important for cisgender/straight people to understand the needs of the LGBT+ community
  • LGBT+ a brief history
  • Understanding the difference between sexuality, gender expression, biology and gender identity
  • How society builds a stereotype for sexuality and gender
  • The pathway of medical intervention for a trans person and external support
  • Understanding different gender identities and pronouns
  • A brief understanding of the Equality act 2010
  • Issues associated with being LGBT+
  • How can your service be more inclusive?
