    There's always hope

    There's always hope

Nik and Eva Speakman believe it’s cruel to take hope away from people. There might not be a clear solution to your problem today, but there might be tomorrow. As they explain, hope is not only scientifically proven to boost immune function and decrease pain, but having hope that there is an answer is what will make sure you keep searching for that answer rather than giving up.
Someone who is proof you should never give up hope that you can get better is listener Betty, who had a very traumatic childhood. She joins the Speakmans to talk through how she went from consistently being told she was having break downs, to being the relaxed, happy woman she is now.
CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains frank conversation about suicide, so please take care while listening.

Deep rooted? That's just an excuse

Deep rooted? That's just an excuse

Nik and Eva Speakman have a pet hate, and it’s when people are told their issues are too ‘deep rooted’ to be resolved. If you weren’t born with a phobia or anxiety, you can get over it. To prove this point, they’re joined by listener Nina who suffered with emetophobia (a fear of vomit) for 57 years, before having her perspective changed in under 10 minutes at one of The Speakmans’ workshops.

    Letting the bullies build us

    Letting the bullies build us

Nik and Eva Speakman talk through why what a bully does says more about them than it does about you. They’re joined by presenter, author, and DJ Gok Wan, who recalls his experiences of being belittled and called names at school, but explains why those incidents of bullying have shaped him into the compassionate, giving person he’s known as today. Together they all share how they’ve personally been able to turn negative experiences of both physical and mental bullying into positives, ultimately coming out the other side with as more confident people.

    Speaking is healing

    Speaking is healing

Nik and Eva Speakman explain why a problem shared really is a problem halved. They believe that speaking is healing, as silence can make problems feel bigger when they only live inside your own head. Talking about trauma out loud takes power away from it. The process of speaking for the first time can be incredibly difficult, so the Speakmans talk through tips including rehearsing what you want to say, and writing your story down.

It’s not what’s wrong with you, it’s what happened to you

It’s not what’s wrong with you, it’s what happened to you

Nik and Eva Speakman are joined by Jeremy and Ian, famously known as All On The Board on social media. They write positive poems and messages around mental health on the London Underground whiteboards. Their work is very personal; Jeremy has social anxiety, and Ian has a phobia of swallowing. The Speakmans help both of them look at their timelines to pin point the life events that brought on their anxieties.

    Confidence saboteurs

    Confidence saboteurs

Nik and Eva Speakman are joined in their therapy room by The Chase’s ‘Vixen’ Jenny Ryan. Together, they explore their own experiences of how others have sabotaged their confidence, and how they’ve learnt to re-build their self-esteem. The Speakmans' advice includes setting clear boundaries with loved ones and looking back to change your perspective of painful experiences.

Best game since snake ,

Phenomenal help when I had really given up

I have always been a hopeful sceptic, a person who struggles and suffers with depression. I am a mental health nurse and I love helping people, and I truly believe everything I say when I help patients, however I am also a hypocrite. I struggle hugely to believe a lot of the things I say, no matter how much I feel like I’ve worked on my own issues.
As soon as I finished listening to the podcast, I restarted it and listened again, and I will continue listening to it when and where I feel I need reminding of the wonderful, clever and considered words of Nick and Eva.
My mum has invited me to attend one of their in person groups, so listening to this podcast was just my way of seeing what they were all about. I still need some help, which I feel the in-person session will help me achieve, but this podcast is honestly amazing and I truly believe will help so many people, just from listening.
This should be taught in schools and be spread throughout the NHS. I wish there was more seasons of this show, I am obsessed!
From the bottom of my heart Nick and Eva, thank you, you have given me back hope that I can get better, which I had really given up on.
Can’t wait to see you both soon at your live show in Bristol! - we will be the Welsh ones! Lots of love, Meg.

Bring on another series

After attending the “upgrade your life” workshop in February I have listened to this podcast most days and at any given opportunity to be honest. I love love love everything about The Speakmans and only wish I had discovered them sooner. My life is changing since the workshop and this podcast. I’ve laughed out loud to most of the episodes and at times found my self crying one minute and then laughing the next. You really have been the best medicine and the reason why I am really starting to understand the person that I am. Thank you, thank you and thank you. Now please bring out another series 😁

Nicola BDM ,

Fabulous!

Just wanted to say Nick & Eva how I absolutely love your podcast! I’ve binge listened to all pods in the last couple of weeks from start to finish. Can’t wait for your next ones, please make more soon! I love the warm banter you both have with each other, you really can feel the love you both share for each other and you’re children. Nick? Your jokes have me rolling with laughter and secretly Eva loves them too! I have learned so much and I will be attending one of your workshops one day. Keep up the amazing work you and your family do. Look forward to seeing you all in person one day. Lots of love Nicola x
